Web-design tricks to make your ads not so annoying

Adverts of any kind are annoying. They are even annoying if you happen to be searching for a specific product. Things such as TiVo are so popular because people hate watching adverts. So, it is better for you and your viewers if you make your adverts a little less offensive to the eye and a little less annoying. Here are a few ways you can make your adverts less annoying.

Stop creating pop-up adverts
If you are guilty of doing this then have the words, “No pop up adverts” tattooed on the palm of your hands and slap yourself until the ink starts to rub off. Pop up adverts are the worst and are the reason that anti-popup software is so popular. The problem is that the anti-popup software is crap (i.e. not very good). There are still adverts that pop up as a page loads that you have to click off of, and adverts that work with redirects.
The only things that popup blockers stop are pop-ups that open a new tab or new window, and there are still ways of getting around that so that they still appear. So, it is all down to the website owner or developer. You must be the one to stop this annoying plague and vow to never create any sort of message or advert that comes onto the screen where the user has to click off of it.

Do not have auto-start video or audio adverts
These are almost as bad as popup adverts, except that this sort of thing helps to inform the online community of which websites they should never visit again. With popup adverts you may see them appear on websites that are otherwise good. But websites that have auto-start videos or audio adverts are only in it for the money and so are instantly clicked off of by anyone with more than half a brain or at least one finger.
If you want to make your websites less annoying and you want to lower your massive bounce rate, then get rid of your auto-start videos and audios. Opt for the ones that need to be clicked on to star. At a push you can place one in a sidebar that may start if the mouse pointer hovers over it for more than 5 seconds.
Put your affiliate adverts in the top right hand corner
The current trend seems to be that the ads in the top right corner are the ones that are the most inoffensive and least annoying. For some reason we have all become so used to adverts in the top right corner that we just assume they are part of the furniture and therefore are not as annoying as the other types of advert.

Have affiliate adverts that match your color scheme
Some people are going to tell you that this is a bad idea because it makes them harder to see and therefore less clickable. This is true, but it also makes them less annoying, so you have to take the rough with the smooth. It is sometimes a little difficult to match up your color scheme with your affiliate adverts if they change all the time, so it may be a good idea to host mostly text adverts and that way they will all have a white background.

Put banner ads at the bottom of your page
Banner ads are now the mark of a cheaply made website and people avoid them, but there is no need to get rid of them completely. Just pop one at the bottom of each page and nobody will ever be annoyed by them again. Plus, they do not make your website look cheap or ineffective. They just sit there happily waiting for a person to click on them.
Consider making them smaller
Be wary when you do this because some affiliate networks do not like you tampering with their adverts. Some of them will not allow you to make your adverts smaller, and some will. If you think your adverts are annoying then make them a little smaller. Try to make them a fraction smaller than the other page elements on your website. This may help to make them sink a little further into the background and become less annoying.

Only have them on certain pages
Design your website with categories and sub-categories and only put adverts on the sub categories. You should definitely keep your affiliate adverts off of the home page, but add them onto subsequent pages or sub-category pages.
There is a horror movie website that has done something similar. It has no adverts on the home page, and then has an index of movies from A to Z. So, if you click “C” then you see pages full of horror movie reviews for horror films that begin with C. The first page of reviews for movies beginning with C is free of adverts, but all of the other pages with reviews for C movies have affiliate advertising on them. Doing something like this is a sneaky way of hiding your affiliate adverts in the least annoying places.

DELETE FILES SECURELY AND PERMANENTLY FROM YOUR COMPUTER

Have you ever entertained the thoughts of where your undesired and unwanted files go to when the delete button is hit? This was the question that popped up on my mind this bright morning as I rose up to the early morning glory, I kept pondering on it and that prompted me to write out this post.
With the advance in technology, great data recovery software are available that could fetch out those files that you think can not be found or have been deleted?. When, you hit the delete key on a selected file, windows explorer moves the selected file to the recycle bin. The recycle bin has a certain amount of harddisk space that is allocated to it and this depends on the size of your hard disk. The size of the recycle bin can be altered by it's users to either increase it or decrease it. That means those files that seems to erased when the delete button is tapped are deleted from the windows explorer but still resides in the hard disk.

Technology behind Mobile Commerce Apps

Every year hundreds of mobile commerce apps are being released for Android, iPhone, and BlackBerry devices. In developed markets, releasing such apps usually covers a large proportion of a brand’s target audience. There are various technologies that work behind the mobile commerce apps and company needs to decide which technology they should integrate that will work best for their app and users.
Mobile commerce technology is based on three protocols i.e. Wireless Access Protocol or WAP, SMS, and Unstructured Supplementary Service Data or USSD.The SIM Toolkit is used by many as it allows adding new functionality to the feature phones.

Wireless Access Protocol: WAP 2.0 uses XHTML for mobile Web access. Since 2004, it is available on most of the featured phones and after iPhone was launched most of the browsers of smartphonessupport HTML. This upgraded protocol makes the mobile experience closer to a laptop or desktop based Web experience.WAP user experience is closer to a basic mobile app; however, it does not provide access to features similar to a mobile app. Still, WAP is a good back-up plan for brands that have users without smartphones.

SMS: This is the oldest form of mobile commerce technologies and it is been widely used till date. They can successfully transmit one-way ‘push’ messages including offers, alerts, and other data to subscribers. They can also carry binary data making it a popular wireless delivery mechanism for downloads like encrypted messages, operator logos and ringtones. Besides, SMS supports two-way interactive messaging, which allows bank account holders to simply text “BAL” to a given short code or phone number for checking their account balance. The ease of use and ubiquity of SMS are its main advantages. All end-users can access them irrespective of the type of their mobile device or wireless carrier. However, the lack of encryption is one of its main drawbacks. Though some markets widely use MMS or Multimedia Messaging Service, mobile commerce segment hardly uses the technology. For one reason, it is expensive than SMS and it is difficult to control how the image will appear on the end-user’s device. MMS for bar code is an exception, though it is a niche use at present.

Unstructured Supplementary Service Data: Like SMS, USSD is also an old technology used in mobile commerce. However, it is available in limited markets like parts of India, Central America, Southeast Asia, Europe and Africa and that too just for external services. They are very popular in these markets. This mobile commerce technology establishes a real-time connection, unlike SMS, and actually allows session-based communications. It can even answer users’ queries and transmit push notifications and just like SMS, USSD is easy to use and is accessible from any mobile phone. USSD incorporates mobile PIN protection and secure password as it does not store sent messages on the device.

8 SAFETY TIPS TO KEEP YOUR COMPUTER HEALTHY

Computer devices can be found on almost any home because of the wide range of technology. In most homes the computer system is without care and security and this affects their income and spending rate most of the time. I want to talk about few tips that would help to put your computer system in good shape and also cut down your excess spending….

HOW TO DETECT A FAKE USB DRIVE AND KNOW THE EXACT CAPACITY

I.                  POWER SURGE
This is a sudden increase in the electrical potential energy which can cause an increase in the current flowing to the wall outlet. Common causes of power surge are lightening, wrong wiring, high power electrical devices. To arrest this occurrence a surge arrestor is advice to be installed in a building, so as to check unwanted flow of currents.
Power surge could damage your computer. Once excess current flows into the computer system it fries the mother board and renders your computer useless. To avoid such occurrences never fix your computer plug directly to the wall outlet but instead it should be plugged to a surge protector

II.               BE MINDFUL OF INSTALLED PROGRAMS
Most computer users are guilty of this rule. Due to the free versions of software stuffing the internet, computer users download various softwares and install on their operating system without a thorough check. Avoid programs that that looks scammy. Most software on the internet are malicious programs, such as keyloggers, virus, spyware, etc that could expose your computer system to danger. Be very careful.

III.           UPDATE OPERATING SYSTEM & OTHER SOFTWARES
Outdated operating system and software applications, renders the computer vulnerable to attacks and also freezes the computer when in use. It causes slow response to execute commands and also could bring about crashing of the window explorer and other applications.  Recent software updates are worked upon by the developers to fix bugs that were in the past versions and enhance security.
Therefore, to avoid a clogged file system, crashes or attacks, it is advised to keep the operating system and all applications up-to-date. It is recommended to set your computer to automatically update the OS and software applications such as browsers, flash players, java, antivirus, etc. This helps to protect the computer and keep it in good condition.

IV.           KEEP OUT OF REACH FOR WATER & BABIES
Electronic gadgets are never friends with water. Water, when spilled on a working computer system could fry up the mother board, damage the keyboard panel and also bring about mal-function. Avoid water or water related substance to be placed near the computer system.
Children of tender age should also be kept far from the computer system to avoid hampering or tampering with the computer system because they are fragile objects and when mis-handled they could get damaged.

V.              PROPER VENTILATION SYSTEM
A proper ventilation system is required to keep your personal computer healthy as it dissipates heat. The computer requires much air flow when it is running a heavy program such as photoshop, corel draw, games etc because much heat is dissipated at that moment of execution.
Your personal computer should not be placed on a condition where it does not receive proper air flow such as placing it on a foam or firmly attached to the wall so as to avoid dust clogging up on the cooling fan. The heat sink/cooling fan should be checked to be in good condition.

VI.           PERIODIC CLEAN UP
When the computer system is been kept on an open space or in use for a while, dust accumulates within the computer casing and this clogs up the cooling fan with dust, reducing proper air flow and thereby causing an increase in the temperature of the computer system. Crashes would occur when the dissipated heat is unable to find an escape route and thereby causing a high rise in temperature,
Occasionally, the computer system should be dis-assembled and excess dust build-up be wiped off. This is best done by a can compressed air, the computer pats should be sprayed with compressed air. If the technical know-how to assemble and  dis-assemble a computer system is lacked, a computer technician should be contacted to avoid further damages or attend a computer training for future aids.

VII.       ANTIVIRUS
When an operating system is installed on a computer, antivirus program is advised to be installed next so as to check every other installed programs against virus. The use of an antivirus is compulsory and inevitable. Some antivirus program are malware, ensure genuine and good antivirus are installed. Examples of good antivirus are Bitdefender, AvG, Avast, Norton, Kapersky, Microsoft windows defender.
Only one antivirus program should be installed on a system but if two programs are so desired they should be installed on different drive partitions and only one out of the two (2) should be running in the background else a system crashing could occur if they interfere with each other.

VIII.     NEVER USE YOUR PC ON THE BED
When you dizzy, it is not advisable you use your personal computer because at that moment you could do some things that are unknown to you such as lying on the keyboard that could alter the system configurations or affect the keyboard panel.
Using a laptop on the bed also increases the temperature of the laptop thereby causing severe damages if for a long time.

BACK UP & RESTORE YOUR EMAILS

IX.           BACK UP YOUR FILES
Nothing lasts forever! Your hard drive may fail any time and it’s never going to pre-inform you. When it fails, all your important files would be lost. All those photos, notes you’ve gathered for years would suddenly be wiped out if you fail to back up.

What’s your back up plan? Cloud back up or external storage back up, which ever you use but it is advisable you make use of both. You can schedule you computer to periodically create a backup on your computer
